Wolverines Survive in Five Against Weber State

Orem, Utah - Utah Valley survived a wild five-game match (30-32, 31-29, 28-30, 30-24, 15-12) against in-state rival Weber State in the opener of the UVU/LaQuinta Inn & Suites Invitational on Friday night.

Kristi Lindley set a school record with 70 assists for the Wolverines in the match against her former school. She spent her first two seasons playing in Ogden and was the team leader in assists during the 2006 season.

Jessica Endres led UV with 23 kills, Kristin Anderson had a career-high 21 kills and hit a game-high .474 and Camie Manwill had 20 kills for UV. Allyce Wilson had 31 digs for Utah Valley, a career high for her early in her Division I career.

The Wolverines had a lead late in every match but the pesky Wildcats would never go away. Weber State fought off two game points in the first game to pick up a 32-30 win.

After Utah Valley escaped game two 31-29, the Wolverines looked to have control of the match with a 25-20 lead in the third. The Wildcats out-scored UV 10-3 down the stretch of the game to take a 2-1 advantage.

Anderson sparked the Wolverines in game four with seven of her kills and also hit .455 in the game as UV had control for most of game four, winning 30-24.

Game five resembled game three as Utah Valley built a five point lead at 10-5 but Weber State fought its way back to make it close.

The Wildcats trimmed the lead to two at 14-12 but an Endres kill gave the Wolverines the match.

Utah Valley improved to 3-4 all-time against Weber State and has won two straight against the in-state foe.

The Wolverines also improved to 2-1 this season in five-game matches.

The Wolverines also improved to 2-1 this season in five-game matches heading into Saturday's 11am match against San Jose State. UV will close out the invitational at 7:30pm by battling Arizona State at 7:30pm.

San Jose State won a close four-game match over Arizona State in the first game of the invitational. The rest of tomorrow's schedule pits Weber State vs. Arizona State at 1pm and vs. San Jose State at 5pm.
