Wolverines Prevail in Another Five-Game Nail Biter

Sept. 8, 2007

Orem, Utah - Allyce Wilson shattered a school-record with 39 digs as Utah Valley saw a 2-0 lead disappear before prevailing in five games (30-27, 30-22, 23-30, 27-30, 15-10) at the LaQuinta Invitational on Saturday.

Wilson, who broke Maegan Hoyt's record of 33 set in 2004, had an impressive nine digs in the deciding fifth game.

The Wolverines improved to 5-1, continuing their school-record start while San Jose State dropped to 5-2.

Jessica Endres had 24 kills and hit .420 while Camie Manwill had her sixth double-double in six matches with 22 kills and 23 digs. Freshman Kayli Broadbent had 17 kills and Kristin Anderson had 10 as UV had four players reach double figures in kills.

After edging the Spartans in game one, the Wolverines took what seemed to be a commanding 2-0 lead with an eight-point win in the second game.

San Jose State battled back, winning game three by seven points and game four by three before taking control of the match in game five with a 5-1 start.

But the Wolverines used a 6-1 run with three points coming on Endres kills to take a 7-6 lead.

Utah Valley closed out the game on a 6-2 run capped by a service ace from Manwill to win the match.

The Wolverines improved to 2-0 in the invitational and clinched at least a tie of the championship with three more games throughout the rest of the day.

A Weber State win over Arizona State this afternoon would guarantee the Wolverines a first-place finish regardless of their 7:30pm match against Arizona State.
