Streak Ends at Three in Loss at Idaho State

Oct. 14, 2008

POCATELLO, Idaho - The Utah Valley University women's volleyball team's (6-9) three-match winning streak ended in a four-set loss (25-20, 17-25, 15-25, 23-25) at Idaho State (4-14) Tuesday.

Senior setter Kristi Lindley earned her first double-double of the season with 35 assists and 10 digs in the match. Sophomore outside hitter Kayli Broadbent again led UVU's offense and all hitters with 15 kills in the match in addition to her seven digs and two block assists. Junior libero Allyce Wilson also chipped in 21 digs, and junior middle blocker Kristin Anderson racked up eight kills and eight block assists.

"Idaho State played very well, and I'll give them credit," UVU head coach Sam Atoa said. "They executed well down the stretch where they struggled in the first set. That threw us off a bit. We made the effort again in the fourth game where it was anybody's ball game. We played hard, but Idaho State made the plays that mattered."

The Wolverines scored the first point of the match, but did not lead again until they took the lead back at 21-20 late in the first set. Utah Valley took the first set 25-20 as Broadbent led all hitters with four kills in the set, and Anderson led all blockers with four block assists.

The Bengals retaliated in the second set hitting .276 after Utah Valley held them to .048 in the first set. Both teams recorded 10 total kills in the set, but Idaho State committed only two attack errors and took the set 25-17. ISU took the third set 25-15 after more of the same with both teams racking up 10 kills apiece, but the Bengals hitting .292 to the Wolverines .034.

The fourth and final set also went to ISU 25-23. The Bengals committed 15 attack errors in the set, but also tallied 18 kills. Utah Valley recorded nine kills in the set and hit .125 to Idaho State's .059.

The Wolverines will take a 10-day break and be back in action against Texas-Pan American October 24 at the Shurian Family Activity Center. Utah Valley already beat UTPA in three sets once this season.
