OREM, Utah - Utah Valley will wrap up its 2007-08 wrestling season with home duals against Mesa State on Friday and Portland State on Monday.
Friday's dual against Mesa State will begin at 4:30pm, in between sessions at the Utah State High School Wrestling Championships being held in The McKay Center. Monday's match will begin at 7pm.
The Wolverines haven't had a home dual inside the Shurian Family Activity Center since they defeated South Dakota State in their Western Wrestling Conference opener on January 3rd. The last "home" dual came on January 28th, when a power outage forced the match vs. North Dakota State to be moved the UV's practice facility.
"The guys are excited to finish the season at home and to get out a show their stuff in front of their family and friends," said head coach Greg Williams. "We've be able to get past a lot of injuries and sickness and it will be nice to be able to go out and compete at our abilities."
Freshman Benjamin Kjar leads the nation in wins after adding to his school-record win total with his 37th official victory at Wyoming on Saturday. Kjar is also 16-2 in duals this season.
Utah Valley (7-11) lost a heartbreaker that came down to the final match last week at Wyoming, 20-15. The loss wrapped up the second season of Western Wrestling Conference action for the Wolverines at 1-4.
Monday's match will be senior night and the final collegiate competition in the careers of seniors Sam Allen, Marc Fenwick and Nate Kearsley. Allen is entering the weekend with 26 wins against just 12 losses.
