LAS CRUCES, N.M. - A big first inning was the difference as Texas A&M Corpus Christi scored seven in the first frame on its way to a 9-0, five-inning win over Utah Valley.
The Wolverines fall to 2-4 with the loss. Walks were the story as Corpus Christi had just one more hit than UV.
Magan Niemann (2-for-3) and Jessica Anderson (2-for-2) recorded multi-hit days for UV.
After the Wolverines were retired in order in the first, Corpus Christi saw six of its first seven batters reach base--four receiving free passes. The Islanders' got a two-out triple to score two before UV got out of the inning.
Utah Valley got two hits in each of the final four innings but weren't able to get any runs across.
Corpus Christi scored its only other run in the bottom of the second. The game ended after five innings due to the eight-run rule.
UV will return to action when the Wolverines play host-school New Mexico State at 2 p.m. before taking on Samford at 7 p.m. (MT)
