RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Despite a excellent pitching performance by Utah Valley's Heidi Stocks, the Wolverines fell 2-1 to UC Riverside after a seventh inning rally.
"Heidi threw the best game a pitcher has thrown for us this season," UV head coach Todd Fairbourne said. "It is a shame that she didn't get a win in this one."
Stocks surrendered just three hits and didn't surrender a run until the final hit of the game--the only hard hit ball off her on the day.
UV got on the scoreboard first when Alli Bramwell led off the top of the sixth inning with a single. She moved to second on a Cherylyn McGraw single and got to third on a flyout. Bramwell scored the game's first run when Jessica Anderson hit a sacrifice fly.
The game remained at 1-0 until the bottom of the seventh when the Highlanders drew back-to-back walks to lead off the inning. After an error loaded the bases the Highlanders ended the game with a two-run single.
UV will wrap up its weekend tomorrow morning when the Wolverines take on Iowa at 9 a.m. (PT)
