UVU Notes
HOUSTON - Utah Valley University enters the Great West Conference Volleyball Tournament this weekend as the No. 2 seed and will face Chicago State (0-25, 0-12) in the first round Friday at 11:30 p.m. (MT) in Houston.
"Being our first conference championship since making the decision to go to the NCAA Div. I level, it is exciting to play in it," UVU volleyball coach Sam Atoa said. "We feel good about our chances because of the way we have been playing."
UVU (20-9, 10-2) finished the regular season with the 3-1 win over NJIT for the Wolverines' third straight victory last Thursday night in Orem.
North Dakota enters the GWC Tournament as the No. 1 seed, followed by UVU, NJIT, South Dakota, Texas-Pan American, Houston Baptist and Chicago State.
Utah Valley is 4-0 all-time against the Cougars, and the Wolverines have won each match 3-0.
Kimberly Naut leads the Cougars with 115 kills and Mazvita Maziveyi has 99, while Hanya Minta leads the team in digs with 188 and assists with 340.
Kayli Broadbent leads UVU with 449 kills and Camie Manwill has 323. Allyce Jones leads the team with 562 digs and Chelsea Fa'alogo has a team-high 1,104 assists.
