LOGAN, Utah - Utah Valley dropped a doubleheader to Utah State, 12-2 and 8-6, Tuesday afternoon in Logan.
With the losses, the Wolverines, who have lost three straight games, are 19-22.
In Game 1, Utah Valley scored its only two runs in the top of the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Mandy Tapia to score Meghan Woodworth, who tripled to start the game, and a homer by Megan Gardner.
Subsequently, Utah State starter Kate Greenough allowed just one hit the rest of the way in the 10-run Aggie victory.
Kyli Flanary (9-8) suffered the loss by surrendering five runs on eight hits, and Heather Bacon allowed seven runs in six hits in .2 innings of relief.
In Game 2, the Wolverines held a 6-1 lead after 4½ innings before the Aggies touched up Tapia for two runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth to record the come-from-behind victory.
Woodworth led off the game with a homer to give the Wolverines the early 1-0 lead. They increased it to 4-0 when Cherylyn McGraw had an RBI single in the third inning as did Amber Sackett, and Gardner scored on a passed ball.
Amanda Perez increased the UVU lead to 6-1 with a two-run homer in the fifth before Utah State scored two in the bottom of the fifth and five more in the sixth to earn the two-run victory.
"We have to learn to play at the same high level that we have to start games," UVU softball coach Todd Fairbourne said. "When it gets a little tough we need to answer challenges."
Woodworth, who was named the Pacific Coast Softball Conference Mountain Division Player of the Week, McGraw and Perez had two hits each in the second-game loss.
The Wolverines return to PCSC action Friday when they host Seattle University in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
