Game 2

DALLAS -- Utah Valley came back from a two-run deficit in the second game of the doubleheader against Houston Baptist Friday afternoon at the Great West Conference mid-season tournament to post a 4-2 win to earn the split with the Huskies.

After the Huskies scored two runs in top of the third inning, the Wolverines answered back with two in the bottom of the frame.

Korryn Coates and Megan Yocom singled before Amanda Robinson drove them home with a two-run double to tie the score.

Two innings later, Amanda Perez belted a solo homer to give the Wolverines the lead for good. For good measure, Yocom, who led the Wolverines with three hits, had an RBI triple in the sixth.

In all, the Wolverines pounded out 12 hits, while UVU starter Josi Summers held the Huskies to just three hits while striking out four in earning her third win of the season.

Robinson, Perez and Mairaea Tanielu had two hits each for the Wolverines.

"I challenged them after (the 2-1 loss earlier) and they came out and hit the ball," UVU softball coach Todd Fairbourne said. "I'm proud of how they bounced back after I got after them."

In Game 1, the Wolverines, thanks to a solo homer by Robinson in the top of the fourth, led 1-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth. The Huskies scored two runs (one earned) to pull out the one-run victory.

UVU's Kyli Flanary allowed just four hits and struck out three without walking a batter in suffering the tough loss.

Samantha Telarroja had UVU's only other hit in the game.

The Wolverines are back in action Saturday at noon and 2 p.m. when they battle the University of South Dakota. UVU will close out the weekend Sunday with a doubleheader with the University of North Dakota beginning at 9 a.m.
