Wolverines Hit Road for First Time in 2011 this Weekend

UVU Volleyball Match Notes

OREM, Utah -- After a Div. I best 6-2 start during its season-opening eight-match homestand, the Utah Valley women's volleyball squad will hit the road for the first time when it travels to Colorado Springs, Colo., to take part in the Falcon Invitational. There UVU will play host Air Force Friday at 7 p.m., Northern Arizona Saturday at 1 p.m. and South Carolina Upstate Saturday at 5 p.m.

During the long home stretch the Wolverines won their last four matches including wins over the Big East's Syracuse, Santa Clara and Cal Poly. The win streak started after a 3-0 defeat to No. 24 Michigan last Friday.

All three matches this weekend will feature live stats that can be found at WolverineGreen.com. Live video will also be available for Friday evening's match with Air Force at GoAirForceFalcons.com.

UVU's Brookelyn Campbell and Jaicee Kuresa were named to the La Quinta Inn and Suites Invitational All-Tournament team last weekend after they helped the Wolverines to a second place finish. Campbell finished with an even 100 assists for the weekend while Kuresa had 29 kills and hit .353 to earn Great West Conference Offensive Player of the Week accolades.

On the season UVU has been led offensively by Lindsay Barker and Chelsey Heaps who have 89 and 86 kills respectively.

About Air Force
The Air Force Falcons are 2-5 on the year and are coming off of a 1-2 weekend at Denver University's tournament last week. There the Falcons defeated Bryant but fell to host Denver and 13th-ranked Purdue. AFA is led offensively by Ayesha Hein and Cami Richen and their identical team-high 73 kills apiece. All-time UVU and Air Force are tied 1-1 and the Wolverines won the last meeting over the Falcons in Orem 3-2 last September.

About Northern Arizona
The Lumberjacks will enter the weekend with a perfect 6-0 record. The match will be the second all-time meeting between the two squads and the second of the young season after NAU defeated UVU 3-1 at the Wolverine Invitational on Aug. 27. Northern Arizona is led offensively by Kobi Christensen and her 95 kills and 4.13 kill per set average.

About USC Upstate
South Carolina Upstate is a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference and Saturday will mark the first-ever meeting between USC Upstate and UVU. The Spartans are 2-4 on the season and in their last match defeated fellow Great West foe Chicago State. USC Upstate is led offensively by three players; Mindy Quimby, Morgan Thomas and Kelsie Queen and their 51, 49 and 47 respective kills.

Next up for the Wolverines
UVU will travel to Moraga, Calif., next weekend to play in the Saint Mary's Invitational. There the Wolverines will play host Saint Mary's, Kansas State and Sacramento State.
