OREM, Utah -- After playing to a 1-1 draw on Oct. 4 in Orem, Utah Valley University and Seattle University will meet again on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. PT/8 p.m. MT. The match will take place at Championship Field in Seattle, site of the 2014 WAC Tournament in November, and will also air on the WAC Digital Network.
The contest begins a stretch of three straight on the road for the Wolverines. Of UVU's seven WAC regular season matches that remaing, five will be away from Clyde Field. The two home contests are Incarnate Word (Oct. 31) and Houston Baptist (Nov. 2).
After accounting for the only draw of the season on each other's schedule, both the Wolverines (5-4-1, 1-1-1) and Redhawks (6-4-1, 1-1-1) notched a home win over Grand Canyon and suffered a home loss to UNLV in last week's action.
"We're coming off of the tough loss to UNLV, but the resiliency, focus, and competitiveness this week in training has been remarkable," said UVU head coach
Greg Maas. "Our last match with the Redhawks was a battle, and our boys expect nothing-less in our return to Seattle - we're ready."
UVU picked up a 1-0 over GCU last Friday at Clyde Field, getting a late header from
Skyler Milne on a throw-in from
Matt Gay to account for the game's only score. Two days later the Wolverines were on the wrong end of the same 1-0 decision, falling to UNLV on a first-half penalty kick on a cold and windy afternoon in Orem.
The Redhawks, who were ranked No. 24 in the nation by the NSCAA when these same teams met on Oct. 4, fell 3-1 to UNLV last Friday in Seattle with all of the scoring coming before halftime. Seattle then blanked Grand Canyon, 3-0, on Sunday.
Seattle and UVU are tied with San Jose State for fifth in the early WAC standings. UNLV is at the top of the standings at 3-0-0 in league play. Incarnate Word, which is not eligible for the WAC Tournament, is currently 2-0-0 with Bakersfield and Air Force each 2-1-0.
Next week the Wolverines will travel to Air Force to face the Falcons on Oct. 24 and to Kansas City for a match with the Kangaroos on Oct. 26.
