Utah Valley Shuts Out UTPA, 5-0, in Texas

Edinburg, Texas—Utah Valley scored three first half goals in under eight minutes to secure a 5-0 road win at Texas-Pan American Friday afternoon at the UTPA Soccer Track & Field Complex.

"The team worked hard and was disciplined today," said Utah Valley head coach Brent Anderson. "They played for each other and I couldn't be more pleased with their performance."

Sophomore Sheridan Fox started the Utah Valley (9-5-2, 4-2-0) scoring in the 19th minute when she received a pass from senior McKell Salmon in the box and put it into the left corner of the net for the goal.

Just six minutes and five seconds later, junior Kali Stubbs sent back a Kassandra Anderson rebound into the net to put the Wolverines up 2-0.

Then, just 1:28 after Stubbs scored, senior Kim Stratford fired a long shot from the sideline and put it in the back of the net to give Utah Valley a 3-0 lead.

Utah Valley kept it going in the second half as freshman Sydney Fitzpatrick added the Wolverine's fourth goal in the 66th minute as she found a Stratford pass close to the net and put it past a diving keeper for the score.

Sophomore Taylor Kirk capped off the scoring for the Wolverines as she received a Jamie Brown pass from the left side and then kicked it with her left foot to the right corner of the goal for the final goal of the match.

Junior keeper Jessica Duffin recorded her WAC-best sixth shutout of the season in goal.

"I'm very proud of the team's effort," Anderson said. "To earn a shutout on the road and have five different players score a goal and have four different players with assists really speaks to the ability of this team."

Utah Valley plays its final road match of the season on Sunday when the team travels to Las Cruces to take on New Mexico State. Opening kick is set for 1 p.m. MT.
