SEATTLE – Utah Valley University dropped a double-overtime heartbreaker to Seattle University, 1-0, on Saturday night at Championship Field. Kyle Bjornethun scored the game-winner on a header off a direct kick from Ian Hines-Ike in the 104th minute.
The Wolverines (5-5-1, 1-2-1) and Redhawks (7-4-1, 2-1-1) were six minutes from their second draw in the last two weeks. The two teams played to a 1-1 draw on Oct. 4 at Clyde Field in Orem in the conference opener for both teams.
"Utah Valley and Seattle is quickly becoming a great rivalry," said UVU head coach
Greg Maas. "The work ethic of our players has been fanstastic. We're committed to defend and committed to attack but the game of soccer is about scoring goals. We now need to be able to execute in those final moments and under pressure. Young teams sometimes have to learn that the hard way."
The game was scoreless at the half, the eighth time in the first 11 matches that has happened. The Wolverines haven't scored a first-half goal since the season opening, 5-1 win over UMass, when they scored four times in the first 45 minutes.

Seattle had a big chance to score in the 62nd minute when Brady Ballew fired a shot but
Collin Partee made a diving stop to his left to keep the game scoreless.
Karson Payton nearly scored in the final minute of regulation, but Seattle goalkeeper Shane Haworth made a diving save with 20 seconds remaining.

The Wolverines finished with 27 shots to 20 for the Redhawks and had a 9-3 edge in shots on goal, but could not convert that shots advantage into a goal.
Seattle was the pick to repeat as WAC champions after winning both the regular season and tournament last year before picking up a first round win in the NCAA Tournament over Creighton. Seattle is the site of the 2014 WAC Tournament in November, with the top six teams qualifying for the chance to earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Utah Valley's five losses have all come by just one goal, with two coming on heartbreaking golden goals in double overtime. The Wolverines will continue their three-match WAC road swing next weekend with contests at Air Force (Oct. 24) and Kansas City (Oct. 26).
