OREM, Utah -- Utah Valley University continues its three-match road swing this weekend starting with a contest at Air Force on Friday night at 7 p.m. The Wolverines will also play at Kansas City on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT/noon MT in a game that will air on the WAC Digital Network.
UVU (5-5-1, 1-2-1) is still in search of its first true road win after suffering a heartbreaking 1-0, double-overtime loss at Seattle University last weekend. The Wolverines had a season-high 27 shots with nine coming on goal, but were kept off the scoreboard.
"The team is coming off of a great performance in Seattle, we fell short of deserved result, but that's soccer," head coach
Greg Maas said. "The players have had a solid week of training, they're highly motivated, and we're looking forward to a tremendous response on the road at Air Force and UMKC."
Friday's match marks the halfway point in the WAC season, with Utah Valley battling to be one of the six teams to qualify for the conference tournament in Seattle next month.
UVU leads the WAC and ranks 33rd nationally in goals against average, allowing just 0.78 goals per game. Air Force is second in the league with a 0.94 GAA. Wolverine freshman goalkeeper
Collin Partee is 15th nationally in save percentage (.849) and is 36th in goals against (0.799). Jake Schenk of Air Force leads the nation with a .889 save percentage and is 15th in GAA at .621. AFA and UVU also rank 14th and 15th, respectively, in team save percentage.
Air Force is 6-3-4 overall and 2-2-1 in the WAC and is coming off of a 0-1-1 week that included a 2-0 loss at UNLV and a scoreless draw at Grand Canyon. The Falcons' schedule includes a 2-1 win over then-No. 24 Cal State Northridge early in the season. Air Force is one of five affiliate WAC members in men's soccer.
Kansas City is 3-8-2 overall and 1-3-1 in league play and hosts Seattle on Friday night. The Kangaroos are coming off a big 2-1 win at UNLV last weekend. In the upset win, which gave the Rebels their first WAC loss, the 'Roos scored twice in the first 20 minutes and held off UNLV over the final 70 minutes.
The Wolverines, who are playing five of their final seven matches away from home, will host the final two contests at Clyde Field next weekend. Current WAC leader Incarnate Word will be in Orem on Oct. 31 for a 4 p.m. start and Houston Baptist will round out the home schedule on Nov. 2 with a 1 p.m. kick.
