OREM, Utah—The Utah Valley women's soccer team celebrated senior night by picking up its school-record eighth shutout of the season with a 3-0 win over Chicago State Friday night at Clyde Field. Seniors
McKell Salmon,
Kim Stratford and
Lexi Robison were honored in a ceremony prior to the match.
"It was a great way to honor the seniors," said Utah Valley head coach
Brent Anderson. "I thought Kim (Stratford) did a great job of creating some great attacking opportunities and McKell (Salmon) getting an assist to start the game and then finishing the match with a goal was great. Our seniors have meant so much to our program and have done such a great job leading our team on and off the field. I can't say enough good things about each of them."
The eight clean sheets breaks the previous single season record of seven set by the 2008 and 2010 teams. With the win, Utah Valley (11-5-2, 6-2-0) also ties its single season record for wins with 11.
Jessica Duffin registered her WAC-best eighth shutout of the season in goal for Utah Valley.
"Those shutouts are important because they are getting us wins," Anderson said. "We are moving forward because of them. It's a good team mentality to work defensively. Our defense really has done a great job and Jessica (Duffin) has worked really hard in between the posts for us."
