KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Utah Valley University was stunned on an 88th minute goal in a 1-0 loss at Kansas City on Sunday in WAC men's soccer. The Wolverines are now 6-6-1 overall and 2-3-1 in the WAC play while the Kangaroos improve to 5-8-2 and 3-3-1 in conference.
Guerrero Pino scored the game's only goal with just 2:42 on the clock, sending UMKC to its third straight WAC win. Wes White and Tato Chiaparro assisted on the goal.
"Kansas City is a good team. They play a difficult style and it took us awhile to settle in and adjust to the game," said UVU head coach
Greg Maas. "Today, we found ourselves on the wrong end of a late goal and now this becomes an opportunity for us to learn as we prepare for two very important games this weekend at home."
The Wolverines finished with nine shots, three on goal, while the 'Roos also had nine shots with their only shot on goal as Pino's game-winner.
Of Utah Valley's six losses this season, five have come on goals in the second half or later. Twice UVU has lost on golden goals in the second overtime and twice in the game's final eight minutes or less.
The Wolverines now return to Orem for the final two home contests of the season with Incarnate Word coming to Clyde Field on Friday, Oct. 31 at 4 p.m. MT. The home finale will be Sunday, Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. against Houston Baptist.
