PHOENIX, Ariz.—The Utah Valley University women's soccer team shutout Western Athletic Conference foe Grand Canyon 2-0 Sunday at GCU Soccer Field. The win gives the Wolverines a weekend road sweep as the team also defeated Bakersfield on Friday.

The Wolverines improve to 7-4-2 overall and 2-1-0 in WAC play. Grand Canyon falls to 1-8-1 overall and 0-2-0 in league play.

"It was a nice solid performance for us today," said Utah Valley head coach
Brent Anderson. "It was nice to finish the road trip with a couple of wins. It was a good weekend."

Utah Valley got on the scoreboard in the 32
nd minute when Sara Callster dribbled the ball hard down the field and got the ball to
Kali Stubbs, who sent a cross to
Sydney Fitzpatrick, who put the ball in the back of the net. The score mark Fitzpatrick's first goal of the season. Stubbs earned an assist on the goal.

"Sydney (Fitzparick) did a good job of getting in the right place to receive the ball," Anderson said. "It was an impressive ball from Kali (Stubbs) and a great play all around for the score."

Senior midfielder
Kim Stratford gave the Wolverines an insurance goal in the 55
th minute as followed a rebounded save and sent the ball into the back of the net for her third goal of the season. Junior midfielder
Kasandra Anderson was credited with the assist on the score.

Junior keeper
Jessica Duffin led the Wolverine defense to its fifth shutout of the season. She registered an impressive six saves in the win on Sunday to help secure her WAC-leading fifth shutout of the year.

"We did a very good job defensively today," Anderson said. "We forced Grand Canyon to take some tough shots in some bad spots. We forced GCU away from the goal and that's credit to a strong team defensive effort."

Utah Valley now returns home for a pair of home games. The Wolverines will host Bakersfield on Friday, Oct. 10 at 7:30 p.m. MT before welcoming Grand Canyon on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 2 p.m. MT.
