OREM, Utah—The Utah Valley women's basketball team welcomes Eastern Washington, Bristol University and Montana Tech in their regular season opening weekend, beginning with the Eagles on Friday Nov. 15.
"I'm just excited for our girls to be able to get out there, they have worked hard for a couple of months and it's a big test for us at the beginning. We have three games in four days and Eastern Washington is a very good team. They will test us early and hopefully prepare us for the WAC Conference. "
The Wolverines lost their only exhibition game against Colorado Mesa on Nov. 3 71-67. Their matchup against Eastern Washington is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. MT in the UCCU Center, which will be followed by a Wolverine Club dinner and the men's basketball game against South Dakota.
The Eagles won their exhibition game against Central Methodist on Oct. 30 82-37 and are 2-0 all-time against Utah Valley. The two teams have not met since Jan. 10, 2005, in Orem, Utah. EWU went on to win that game, 60-52, in overtime. The Eagles were picked to finish third in the Big Sky Conference by the media and fifth by the league's coaches. Eastern finished fourth in the conference standings last year.
On Saturday, Nov. 15, Utah Valley will meet the Bristol Bears in the UCCU Center at 3 p.m. MT on Nov. 16, which will be followed by the women's basketball team annual pumpkin pie reception. On Monday Nov. 18, the matchup with Montana Tech will begin at 7 p.m. MT also in the UCCU Center.

Cathy Nixon begins her 20th year coaching for the Wolverines. In the preseason coaches poll, Utah Valley was selected to finish fourth in the WAC, with
Rhaiah Spooner-Knight predicted to finish first team All-WAC. In the preseason media poll, UVU was selected to finish seventh in the WAC, with Spooner-Knight finishing first team All-WAC, and junior
Sam Loggins selected second team All-WAC. This will be Utah Valley's second year competing in the Western Athletic Conference.
