PHOENIX, Ariz. – Utah Valley University secured the No. 4 seed at next week's WAC Volleyball Championships with a 3-0 sweep over Grand Canyon in the regular season finale on Saturday afternoon at Antelope Gym (25-20, 25-16, 25-19).

With the victory, the Wolverines finished the regular season at 14-17 overall and tied for fourth in the WAC standings with an 8-6 league record. UVU will face-off against the fifth-seeded Seattle U Redhawks in the opening round of the WAC Tournament on Thursday.

"This was a great team effort. Macky had a great match and all of the girls played very well," said head coach
Sam Atoa. "I was pleased to end the regular season with a win, and we're hoping to take this momentum into next weekend's tournament."

Sophomore
Macky Treanor led the UVU attack with 10 kills in the contest, while senior
Kalani Norris and junior
Lauren Bakker chipped in six kills apiece. Eight other Wolverines recorded at least one kill on the day as all 14 players that made the trip for Utah Valley appeared in the match.

Treanor also added a double-double as she finished with 10 digs while adding three service aces. Senior
McKenna Tait too had a nice match as she recorded a match-high 29 digs while Bakker led UVU at the net with five blocks.

Tait not only led the way in digs in the match but also became UVU's all-time career leader in that category late in the third set. The Wolverine senior, who is also UVU's career leader in service aces (191), aces per set average (0.42) and service attempts (1,925), passed Allyce Jones' (2007-09) pervious record by two as she now has 1,733 digs in her stellar career as a Wolverine.

With UVU holding just a one-point advantage late in the opening set at 19-18, the Wolverines scored three straight points to take a 22-18 lead. After GCU (17-11, 6-8 WAC) pulled to within two at 22-20, the Wolverines closed out the frame with anther 3-0 spurt to take the set by five points. Â

In the second set, UVU used a 7-1 run midway through the frame to take a 17-10 advantage. The Wolverines later stretched their lead to nine as they went on to take the set by a score of 25-16.

Utah Valley continued to control the tempo in the third set as it built an early 13-2 lead. GCU tried to stage a comeback as it pulled to within four points late in the frame but the Wolverines managed to put the contest away in straight sets following a Bakker kill and a Antelope attack error.

The win marked UVU's second of the season over Grand Canyon as the Wolverines are a perfect 4-0 all-time against the 'Lopes.Â

The Wolverines will now prepare for next Thursday's first-round matchup against Seattle in the WAC Tournament. The contest will take place Thursday at 8:30 p.m. MT/7:30 p.m. PT at Bakersfield's Icardo Center. The winner will advance on to Friday's semifinal match to face the top-seed and regular-season champion Missouri-Kansas City Kangaroos.Â
