Brenden Evans led three players in double figures with a career-high 16 points to help the Utah Valley University men's basketball team to a 60-57 win over Idaho State Wednesday night at Reed Gym.

With the win, Utah Valley improves to 3-1 on the season. The game marked the third of seven straight games on the road for the Wolverines. Idaho State, who was playing its home opener, falls to 0-4 on the year.

"It was a really good overall team victory," said Utah Valley head coach
Dick Hunsaker. "We struggled at times but we were able to fight through some adversity on the road. Idaho State is a well-coached, hard-playing very competitive team that mixes you up with their defensive scheme. I thought it was a game that we can build on and can help continue our development as a team."

Leading 53-52 with 1:09 remaining in the game,
Zach Nelson knocked down a three-point shot from the right corner as the shot clock expired to give the Wolverines a 56-52 lead.
Donte Williams and
Mitch Bruneel then helped secure the lead and the victory as each knocked down a pair of free throws with less than 20 seconds remaining.

Evans scored 14 of his game-high 16 points in the second half, hitting 7-of-12 shots from the field. He also pulled down three rebounds, dished out three assists and tallied one block and one steal.

Bruneel and Williams each scored in double figures with 15 and 13 points, respectively. Bruneel went 5-for-8 from the field and was a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line. Williams made 4-of-7 shots from the field, including a 3-of-6 clip from long range.

Marcel Davis recorded seven points and dished out a game-high six assists. Nelson tallied a game-high 10 rebounds with five points on the night.
Jaden Jackson rounded out the scoring with four points.

As a team, Utah Valley hit 50 percent of its shots from the field while holding Idaho State to a 39.3 percent clip. The Wolverines hit 6-of-14 shots from three, while Idaho State went 6-of-20 (30.0 percent) from beyond the arc.

Utah Valley will continues its stretch of seven straight road games at UC Davis on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. (MT).
