Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Utah Valley defeats Idaho State, 51-47

OREM, Utah—Donte Williams scored 12 points and Mitch Bruneel added 11 to lead the Utah Valley University men's basketball team to a 51-47 win over Idaho State Tuesday night at the UCCU Center.

With the win, Utah Valley improves to 4-7 on the season. The Wolverines are now 2-1 at home. Idaho State falls to 3-9 with the loss. The game marks the first of three straight home games for the Wolverines, who have played eight of their first 11 contests on the road.

Tied 47-47 with 59 seconds to play, Brenden Evans hit a jump hook in the paint to put the Wolverines up by two points, 49-47. Williams then knocked down a shot with 13 seconds remaining to give the Wolverines the 51-47 victory.

"I was real pleased with the tenacity and effort that we gave," said Utah Valley head coach Dick Hunsaker. "There were a number of contributors, some unexpected, that really stepped up and played well in this ball game for us. That's how you build a team. We practice hard every day. It was a very gritty, grind-it-out effort. I thought Idaho State played hard with tremendous emotion and determination."

Williams scored his team-high 12 points on 3-of-8 shooting from the field. He also knocked down 5-of-6 free throws and tallied three steals, a rebound and an assist. Bruneel scored in double figures for the seventh time this season, tallying 11 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the field and a perfect 2-of-2 clip from the charity stripe. Bruneel also pulled down five rebounds on the night.

Zach Nelson helped with seven points while Evans and Dayon Goodman each scored six. Nelson also had a team-high six rebounds in the victory.

Utah Valley shot 36.7 percent from the field while limiting Idaho State to a 30.2 percent clip.

Jeffrey Solarin led three Idaho State players in double figures with a game-high 13 points.

Utah Valley continues play at home on Saturday, Dec. 27 against Sacramento State. Tip-off is set for 7:05 p.m. MT. The game will be broadcast live on the WAC Digital Network and 960 AM The Zone.
