Story Links

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Utah Valley University and CSU Bakersfield played to a scoreless draw on Sunday in WAC men's soccer, giving each team one point in the conference standings. UVU is 11-3-1 overall and 4-1-1 (13 points) in league play with four games remaining in the regular season.

It's the first draw of the season for the Wolverines who were playing their fifth overtime match of the year and are now 3-1-1 in those contests. The Roadrunners are 4-4-4 overall and 1-2-2 in league play.

"I am very pleased with our performance today. We created solid scoring chances, and our tactical commitment for 110 minutes was fantastic," UVU head coach Greg Maas said. "Recovery is now our priority as we prepare for two difficult matches on the road at GCU and UNLV."

The Wolverines nearly scored in the 62nd minute when Karson Payton fired a shot that ricocheted off the post and right back to CSUB goalkeeper Nicolas Clever.

Utah Valley got 14 shots off with six of those on frame. CSU Bakersfield finished with nine shots, three on goal, and also had 10 corner kicks to just three from UVU.

Collin Partee had three saves in goal for the Wolverines, earning his fourth – and the team's seventh – shutout of the season. Clever had five saves in registering his second shutout of the year with CSUB also picking up a team save.

Next weekend Utah Valley will travel to Grand Canyon and UNLV, wrapping up the road portion of the regular season. The Wolverines play at GCU on Friday at 8:30 p.m. MT and at UNLV on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 2 p.m. MT.
