UTAH VALLEY TO HOST SUU, TRAVEL TO BSU

OREM, Utah--The Utah Valley University women's basketball team will host Southern Utah on Tuesday at 7 p.m. MT in the UCCU Center, and then hit the road to see Boise State in the Taco Bell Arena at 7 p.m. MT on Thursday.

The contests are games three and four in what will be six games in 10 days, and games one and two in four games in seven days for the Wolverines (1-1). Utah Valley enters the week coming off of a split weekend, dropping their season opener at BYU 78-62, and besting Bethesda University at home on Saturday 91-64.

In the contest at BYU, senior Sam Loggins recorded 15 points and eight boards, while returning WAC Freshman of the Year Mariah Seals contributed 13, and Taylor Gordon put up 10. Against Bethesda, junior Rebecca MaWhinney had a career high 23 points and tied her career-high for six three-pointers made in a game. Loggins and Seals each added 12 points. Freshman Hadley Nielson and MaWhinney shared a team-high nine rebounds apiece, with Nielson grabbing five boards in her first career three minutes.

SUU SERIES INFORMATION
This will be the 18th time the Wolverines and the Thunderbirds (1-0) have met, with SUU leading the series 13-4. Southern Utah has claimed the last 10 contests, with the last Wolverine win coming Nov. 18, 2009 (68-54).  UVU saw SUU in home and home series last season, and were defeated at home on Dec. 2 (76-72) and in Cedar City on Jan. 6 (66-61).

ABOUT SUU
Southern Utah enters the contest after dropping two exhibitions (CSU Pueblo 74-51, Hope International 75-64) and their season opener to UNLV 79-44. Freshman guard Breanu Reid led the Thunderbirds with 18 points while senior Emma Weinreich led on the boards with seven.

The Thunderbirds were ranked No. 11 in the Big Sky Preseason Coaches Poll of 12 teams. SUU is guided by head coach Chris Boettcher (former UVU assistant coach) in his second season with the Thunderbirds.

"This is an important game for us. This is an opportunity to compete at home against a team that we haven't beaten for awhile, and this game is critical for us to have momentum in the next couple weeks," head coach Cathy Nixon said. "We know they have some talent, but if we come out and compete we can win."

BSU SERIES, UVU LOOKS FOR FIRST ROAD WIN
Utah Valley will travel to Boise State (2-0) for the 12th meeting in the series. Boise State leads the series 8-3, however, the Wolverines bested the 2014-15 Mountain West Tournament Champions early in the season last year (68-60 on Dec. 6). The win broke up a five game winning streak for the Broncos in the series. Utah Valley will be looking for their first road win since Jan. 25, 2014, when they defeated Chicago State 72-46.

ABOUT THE BRONCOS
The Broncos enter the contest after winning their exhibition over Southern Oregon (102-50) and topping Cal State Los Angeles 58-44 on Friday Nov. 13.  Miquelle Askew put up 20 points and pulled down eight rebounds in the contest. Junior Brooke Pahukoa, the MW Tournament MVP and named to the 2015-16 preseason team, recorded just two points for the Broncos in the season opener, but pulled down seven boards. BSU was picked to finish third in the regular season in the Mountain West this season in the Preseason Coaches Poll.

The Broncos defeated College of Charleston on Monday 61-38 behind Shay Shaw who scored 18 points. Shaw also led on the boards with nine rebounds, while Pahukoa grabbed eight.

"Boise has proved to be one of the best teams around, we were able to defeat them early last year, but they had a great season and I know they will be very good at home," Nixon said. "They have more experience and good additions to their team, it will be tough for us, but hopefully our women will be able to compete like we did at BYU. I know if we put together a good game plan and progress as a team we can do that."
