OREM, Utah –
Hailey Kofler hit a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning but it wasn't enough as the Oklahoma State Cowgirls defeated Utah Valley 8-2 in the first game of a Thursday afternoon doubleheader at Wolverine Field.
After falling behind 4-0 after the first inning, Kofler led off the bottom of the second with a shot over the left field fence to put UVU (11-19) on the board and cut the lead to three. The Cowgirls (15-13) responded by scoring three runs in the top of the third to put the game out of reach.Â
Brianna Gatlin had two hits as the Wolverines and the Cowgirls each had seven hits. Wolverine pitchers walked seven hitters, hit two batters and had five wild pitches which was the difference in the game.
Bailey Moore took the loss in the circle for UVU as she gave up seven earned runs in 2.2 innings pitched. Brandi Needham pitched a complete game for the Cowgirls to earn her ninth win of the season.
The Wolverines will look to bounce back as the two teams face off again in game two this afternoon.
