Konner Frey led four other players in double figures with a team-high 21 points to lead the Utah Valley University men's basketball team in a 99-88 setback to WAC foe Grand Canyon Saturday afternoon at GCU Arena in Phoenix, Ariz.

With the loss, Utah Valley falls to 7-11 overall on the season and 1-2 in WAC play. Grand Canyon wins its ninth straight to improve to 16-2 overall and 3-0 in league play.

"I'm really fortunate to be able to coach these young men," said Utah Valley head coach
Mark Pope. "They are fighters. They are playing so hard and they are relentless. I'm really proud of the effort tonight. These guys are making unbelievable strides. We just came up a little short against a really good team on the road tonight."

After falling behind by 21 points, 37-16, with 6:05 remaining in the first half, Utah Valley went on a 21-10 run over the final six minutes to trail by only 10 points, 47-37, at the break. The Wolverines used a 12-3 run to cut the GCU lead to just five points, 80-75, with 5:14 to play, and would get to within five points two times in the final three minutes, but couldn't get any closer as the 'Lopes secured the win.

Frey's 21-point performance is his third 20-point performance of the season. The junior forward connected on 8-of-13 shots from the field, including to shots from long range. He also pulled down eight rebounds and tallied one assist and a steal.

Marcel Davis registered 17 points in the setback, knocking down 6-of-15 shots from the floor, including a pair of threes. He also dished out four assists and pulled down three boards.
Jaden Jackson helped with 16 points, hitting 4-of-13 shots. He went 7-for-8 at the free throw line and recorded five assists and four rebounds.

Hayden Schenck and
Ivory Young were also in double figures with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Schenck also pulled down eight rebounds on the night.

Utah Valley shot 41.9 percent (26-of-62) from the field compared to GCU's 54.4 percent (31-of-57) clip. The two teams were even on the glass with each team recording 34 rebounds.

Joshua Braun led Grand Canyon with a career-high 34 points. Grandy Glaze and De'Andre Davis each helped with 14 points apiece.

Utah Valley will continue WAC play on the road as the team travels to play Missouri-Kansas City and Chicago State next week.
