Konner Frey scored a game-high 21 points and
Marcel Davis and
Jaden Jackson each added 18 to lead the Utah Valley University men's basketball team to a 90-79 win over Missouri-Kansas City Thursday night at Municipal Auditorium.

With the win, Utah Valley improves to 8-11 overall and 2-2 in WAC play. UMKC falls to 8-12 overall and 1-4 in league play.

Mark Pope. "We're in the middle of something really special. It's hard to understand unless you are paying really close attention. What these young men are doing is really incredible. These guys are growing so fast right before our eyes. It is so inspiring to be on this bench and watch these young men rise up. I'm happy for our team and am so proud of them. This was a big win for us tonight."

After taking a 14-point, 39-25 lead into halftime, Utah Valley came out strong in the second half as Frey opened the period with a four-point play after a made three while being fouled to extend the UVU advantage to 16 points, 43-27, with 19:24 remaining. UMKC would eventually cut the Wolverines lead to just five points, 73-68, with three minutes to play, but a Frey three and 12-straight made free throws down the stretch secured the win for UVU.

Frey recorded his 21 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field, including a perfect 3-of-3 clip from beyond the arc. He also knocked down 8-of-9 shots at the free throw line. The junior forward also pulled down five rebounds and dished out three assists in 31 minutes of play.

Davis hit four shots from the field with two threes and went 8-of-9 at the charity stripe to score his 18 points. He also recorded a team-high six rebounds, a team-best five assists and a game-high three steals. Jackson also hit four shots from the field, including two from long range. He was a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line and registered four rebounds and four assists.

Ivory Young and
Dayon Goodman were also in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Utah Valley knocked down an impressive 12-of-22 shots from three-point range—the fourth time this season that UVU has recorded 12 or more threes in a single game. The Wolverines also connected on 32-of-36 shots (88.9 percent) from the charity stripe—the most free throws made and attempted in a game this season.

 Shayok Shayok led UMKC with 21 points while LaVell Boyd helped with 20. UMKC season scoring leader Martez Harrison did not play due to a coaches' decision.

Utah Valley continues WAC road play on Saturday at Chicago State. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. CT / 1 p.m. MT. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN 960 AM radio with Jim McCulloch handling the play-by-play duties.
