OREM, Utah—The Utah Valley University men's basketball team continues Western Athletic Conference play at the UCCU Center Saturday night against the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.

"It will be another tough game for us," said Utah Valley head coach Mark Pope. "Their front line is really big. They don't have a great record right now but they are a team that has untapped potential. They have very talented, capable players. This will be a very important game for us and it will be a battle. It's going to be a very physical battle and we'll be very undersized again. We will have to try and find a way to resolve some of the issues we had against New Mexico State and get ready for Saturday night."

Utah Valley enters Saturday's contest against the Vaqueros with a 6-10 overall record. The Wolverines dropped a 78-66 decision to New Mexico State Thursday night in the team's WAC opener.

Marcel Davis scored a game-high 22 points lead the Wolverines in the setback to the Aggies. The senior guard knocked down 7-of-15 shots from the field and tied a career high with four shots from beyond the arc. He also dished out a team-high five assists and tallied a steal. Konner Frey helped with 15 points while Jaden Jackson added 14.

Frey continues to lead the Wolverines in both scoring and rebounding at 14.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. Davis and Jackson also average double figures at 13.3 and 13.2 points a contest, respectively. Davis leads the team in assists at 4.2 a game, while Andrew Bastien fronts the team and the WAC in blocks at 2.0 a contest.

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley heads into Saturday's game with an 4-12 overall record. The Vaqueros are looking for their first road victory of the season as the team holds an 0-8 mark away from the comfy confines of the UTPA Fieldhouse.

UTRGV opened WAC play with an 83-63 loss at Grand Canyon on Thursday night. Grad student Dakota Slaughter led the Vaqueros with 15 points, connecting on 5-of-9 shots from the field, including a 3-of-7 clip from long range. Senior Shaquille Hines helped with 14 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Dan Kimasa and senior Everett Osborne were also in double figures with 14 and 10 points, respectively. Hines leads the Vaqueros in scoring this season at 14.6 points and Kimasa fronts the team in rebounding at 6.3 boards a contest.

The Vaqueros are coached by Dan Hipsher who is in his third season with the team. He holds a 23-56 record at UTRGV.

Thursday's meeting with the Vaqueros marks the 21st time that the two schools have met on the basketball hardwood. UVU holds an all-time 17-3 advantage over UTRGV, including a two-game season sweep last season. The Wolverines have won six straight over the Vaqueros dating back to a 66-49 win on Feb. 9, 2013.

Saturday's game at the UCCU Center will tip at 7 p.m. MT. The game will be broadcast live UVU TV. The game will also be broadcast on ESPN 960 AM radio.
