Marcel Davis scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Utah Valley University men's basketball team to an 88-77 road win over WAC foe UT Rio Grande Valley Thursday night at the UTRGV Fieldhouse.

With the win, Utah Valley improves to 10-13 overall and evens its WAC record to 4-4. UTRGV falls to 6-17 overall and 2-6 in league play.

Mark Pope. "They stuck to the game plan and got us another big road win. We got great contributions from everyone tonight. The one thing about this team is that their confidence is growing and their confidence in me is growing and my confidence in them is growing. We just have to keep going that direction and if we can keep hanging in there we will be a dangerous team come tournament time. "

UTRGV jumped out to a quick 9-2 lead four minutes into the game. The Wolverines countered with an 11-3 run to tie the game 14-14 at the 11:31 mark of the first half. Utah Valley used a 7-0 run over the final three minutes to take a 42-35 lead into the break.

The Vaqueros fought back to take a 55-52 lead with 12:40 remaining in the game. UVU countered with a 14-3 run to take a 66-53 lead with 8:05 to play. UTRGV cut the UVU lead to four points, 77-73, with 3:58 remaining, but the Wolverines out-scored the Vaqueros 11-4 to close out the game and secure the win.

Davis recorded his fourth 20-plus point game of the season, connecting on 8-of-15 shots from the field. He made 2-of-3 shots from beyond the arc and knocked down 5-of-6 shots at the free throw line. He also tallied five rebounds, five assists and a pair of steals.

Jaden Jackson helped with 15 points, hitting 7-of-11 shots from the field. He also dished out four assists with two rebounds and two steals.
Dayon Goodman scored a career-high 14 points, going 7-of-10 from the floor with a pair of rebounds.

Hayden Schenck registered eight points and seven rebounds, while
Konner Frey helped with seven points and eight rebounds.

The Wolverines recorded a 53.8 percent (35-of-65) clip from the field on the night while limiting UTRGV to a 41.3 percent (31-of-75) mark. UVU connected on 14 of its 15 free throws on the night.

Dakota Slaughter led four other UTRGV players in double figures with 15 points.

Utah Valley continues WAC road play at New Mexico State on Saturday night. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. MT in Las Cruces. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN 960 AM radio with Jim McCulloch handling the play-by-play duties.
