OREM, Utah—The Utah Valley University women's soccer team kept its unbeaten streak at home alive with a 2-0 home-opening shutout victory over in-state rival Southern Utah Friday night in front of 1,990 fans at Clyde Field.

Utah Valley improves to 2-1-0 overall on the season while Southern Utah falls to 0-2-0.

"It's great to come out and get the shutout in the home opener," Utah Valley head coach
Brent Anderson said. "I thought our team played fairly well. We were a little bit sloppy in our possession but we worked well to get it back. Our defense played stellar tonight. Our backline played really well together."

Abby Jameson fired a shot over the keeper's out-stretched arm from about 25 yards out in the 24th minute to help extend UVU's Clyde Field unbeaten streak to 11 matches.
Kalli Suesue was credited with the assist after setting Jameson up on the left side for the score. The goal marks Jameson's first career goal.

"Kalli played the ball back to me and gave me a really good angle towards the goal," Jameson said. "It was my first collegiate career goal so I was super excited. It felt like the ball was up in the air forever and it went upper 90."

Alexis Peterson helped secure the win in the 90th minute as she received a pass from
Breanna DeWaal down the right side of the field and put it past the keeper for the score.
Courtney Stromberg was also credited with the assist on the goal. Peterson has now registered a goal in each of UVU's three matches this season.

Utah Valley out-shot Southern Utah 17-10, including a 6-5 five advantage on goal. DeWaal led the Wolverines with five shots on the night, including a team-high three on goal.

Sarah Davis and
Brooklyn Nielsen each recorded a half in goal for UVU. Davis was credited with the win in the box. Davis tallied three saves and Nielsen had two.

Utah Valley now travels to play Oklahoma on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. MT. The match will be broadcast live on Fox Sports Oklahoma and Fox College Sports.
