Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Utah Valley drops 2-0 decision at Seattle U in WAC opener

SEATTLE—The Utah Valley University men's soccer team gave up a pair of first half goals and could never recover in a 2-0 setback to Seattle U Friday night in the team's Western Athletic Conference opener at Championship Field in Seattle.

With the loss, Utah Valley falls to 7-3-0 overall on the season and 0-1-0 in WAC play. Seattle U improves to 5-4-0 overall and 1-0-0 in league play.

"We had a 10 minute spell where we gave up a couple of goals and it forced us to chase the game," said Utah Valley head coach Greg Maas. "This was game one out of a 10 game conference schedule. We're not going to put more into this match than any other match. Today they took care of their chances and we didn't. Now we get healthy and get back to the training ground. We look forward to two matches at home next week."

Seattle U's Sergio Rivas received a cross in the box from teammate Jeff Rose and then made a move to the right side and put the ball in the back of the net to give the Redhawks a 1-0 advantage in the 20th minute.

Sam Langston scored SU's insurance goal in the 22nd minute as he gave the Redhawks a 2-0 lead in the 22nd minute. David Olson was credited with the assist.

The Redhawks out-shot Utah Valley 17-7 on the night, including an 8-4 advantage on goal. Aaron Meyer led the Wolverines with three shots, including a team-high two on net.

Elliott Rubio played all 90 minutes in the box, collecting a match-high six saves.

Utah Valley will continue WAC play against CSU Bakersfield on Oct. 6 at Clyde Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
