Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

UVU drops 1-0 decision to Wyoming in final seconds

LARAMIE, Wyoming—With the score tied 0-0 and just 10 seconds remaining in the second and final overtime period, Wyoming's Alisha Bass scored off a corner kick to lift the Cowgirls to a 1-0 lead over Utah Valley Friday afternoon at the Louis S. Madrid Soccer Complex.

The loss is just the second of the season for the Wolverines, who fall to 4-2-0 overall. Wyoming improves to 4-2-1 on the season with the victory.

"That is a disappointing way to close out that match," said Utah Valley head coach Brent Anderson. "I don't think any of us were to impressed with our play the first half. Wyoming put us under some pressure and we didn't solve that problem quick enough to get a lot of positive play in the first 45. I think the team was able to make some key adjustments and played very well as we moved into the second half and created a lot of good scoring chances. I am pleased with he team's effort overall and I think we saw some things that we can capitalize on and use as we get ready for Sunday's match."

Utah Valley out-shot Wyoming 16-10 on the day, including a 7-5 advantage on goal. Taylor Kirk led the Wolverines with four shots, including two on goal. Breanna DeWaal and Sara Callister each had three shots, while Breanna McCarter had two.

The Wolverines nearly picked up the win in the first overtime as Callister's shot hit the left post and bounced back into play in the 98th minute. Kirk rebounded the ball off the post and shot it just wide.

Brooklyn Nielsen played all 109:50 in the box for UVU. The freshman keeper tallied four saves on the day. The setback is Nielsen's first of the season in the box as she now has a 2-1-0 record.

Utah Valley continues road play at Colorado College on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. MT at Washburn Field in Colorado Springs. The match will be streamed live on the Mountain West Digital Network.
