EDINBURG, Texas -- A trio of second-half goals helped propel the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley past Utah Valley Univeristy, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon in Western Athletic Conference men's soccer.

The Wolverines drop to 3-8-1 overall and 0-3-1 in WAC play while UTRGV improves to 4-4-2 overall and 1-2-1 in conference.

"For the first 60 minutes I thought we were very good, but then we physically hit the wall and UTRGV took full advantage of their moments," UVU head coach Greg Maas said. "Winning is contagious, but unfortunately, so is losing. This team is in a position we've never experienced, but the players and coaching staff are determined to persevere and keep fighting to turn this season around."

Carlos Acevedo had a brace for the Vaqueros scoring on a header in the 50th minute for what turned out to be the game-winning goal, and 10 minutes later into the left corner for a 2-0 UTRGV lead. Isaiah Hinds added insurance for UT Rio Grande Valley in the 73rd minute, rebounding a saved shot by Ilias Kosmidis.

The Wolverines were out-shot 8-7 including 4-0 on goal. The foul count was even with 10 whistled on each side.

Utah Valley returns home for two matches this week with Kansas City coming to Clyde Field on Thursday for a 5 p.m. MT start. Two days later, 13th-ranked Air Force will be in Orem for 7 p.m. match on Saturday night. Both matches are part of a men's and women's soccer doubleheader.
