Second-half surge guides UVU past Ottawa in exhibition

OREM, Utah – Utah Valley women's basketball used a pair of second-half runs to pick up a 69-51 exhibition win over Ottawa University Arizona Monday afternoon inside the UCCU Center.

The Wolverines outscored the Spirit 14-8 in the third quarter behind a 9-3, quarter-ending run to enter the fourth quarter with a 52-38 lead. UVU then continued their offensive surge in the fourth quarter with a 15-7 scoring burst to give them their largest the lead of the game before escaping with the victory.

UVU finished the contest with four double-digit scorers, guided by a game-high 17 points from sophomore guard Gabrielle Leos. Senior Mariah Seals added 13 points, while senior guard Taylor Christensen and sophomore forward Jordan Holland finished with 10 points apiece.

OUAZ's appearance in the UCCU Center marked the return of former Utah Valley assistant coach Caitlyn Sears, who spent two years on the Wolverine sideline before joining the Spirit this season.

As part of a season-opening, five-game road trip, the Wolverines will next head north of the I-15 to Ogden, Utah, for their season opener at Weber State at 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 10. Utah Valley returns to its home court on Nov. 28 for a 7 p.m. contest against Dixie State.
