LAS VEGAS—Chidera Akubuilo headed in a corner kick with less than two minutes to play in the second overtime to give UNLV a 2-1 win over Utah Valley on Friday night at Peter Johann Memorial Field in Las Vegas.

With the loss, Utah Valley falls to 1-2-0 on the season, while UNLV improves to a perfect 3-0-0. The Wolverines have now dropped both of their losses this season on the road in double overtime.

"This was a tough one to take because we played really well," said Utah Valley head coach
Chris Lemay. "We played our best game of the year against a very good UNLV team that has a lot of dangerous weapons. It was a hard fought match by both sides. We are playing a tough schedule and it is making us better and we continue to grow in the right direction. Our goal is to be in our best form once conference play gets here and that's the direction we are heading towards. I'm proud of our team and am happy with where we are at right now."

Sydney Fitzpatrick got the Wolverines on the scoreboard early as she received a pass from
Hannah Bruce and fired a 25-yard bomb off the crossbar and into the back of the net in the fourth minute to give UVU an early 1-0 lead.

UNLV scored the equalizer in the 17th minute after Michaela Morris passed it off to Sophie Cortes who then took one dribble and scored to even the match at 1-1.

The Rebels secured the win with just 2:45 to play in the second overtime as Akubuilo headed in an Amanda Galbraith corner kick in the 108th minute.

Breanna DeWaal and
Breanna McCarter led the Wolverines with three shots apiece. McCarter led UVU with three shots on goal while DeWaal had two.

Brooklyn Nielsen recorded three saves in the box for UVU. She played all 107:15 minutes of the double overtime match.

Utah Valley continues road play as the team travels to Northridge, California to take on CSUN on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 10 a.m. MT.
