WOLVERINES WRAP HOME SLATE WITH SEATTLE U, SAN JOSÉ STATE
Utah Valley University wraps up its 2018 home schedule with a pair of pivotal WAC contests, beginning with Seattle University on Thursday at 7 p.m. MT. The Wolverines (8-5-0, 5-1-0) will also host San José State on Saturday at 7 p.m. on Senior Night at Clyde Field.
Six Utah Valley seniors will be honored prior to Saturday's match against San José State. Austin Buxton, Blake Leonetti, Marshall Miller, Ben Perkins, Elliott Rubio and Diego Serna are the six seniors who are winding down their eligibility. Seniors Mitch Jensen and Aaron Caprio, both out this season due to injury, are slated to return in 2019.
"It's hard to imagine that these are our last two matches of the season on Clyde Field in front of our 12th Wolverines," UVU head coach Greg Maas said. "Both matches are dedicated to our seniors, and their commitment and dedication to help build UVU men's soccer into the highly respected program that it is today. Their legacy is firmly established in the standards of excellence they exhibited both on the field and in the classroom."
LAST TIME OUT
Utah Valley extended its win streak to five straight after a 2-0 victory over UMKC in the only match of the week. Samuel Krommenhoek and Alec Felix scored goals for the Wolverines, both on headers off of corner kicks. UVU didn't allow the Kangaroos a single shot on goal in the contest.
ABOUT THE OPPOSITION
The Redhawks (10-4-0, 4-2-0) and the Spartans (5-6-2, 3-2-1) are the teams who met in last season's WAC Tournament championship match, with Seattle winning, 2-1, to earn the automatic NCAA Tournament berth.
Seattle U enters Thursday's match having won seven of its last eight matches and is currently tied for third with UTRGV -- behind No. 15 Air Force and UVU -- with 12 points. The Redhawks are just outside the top 25 in the coaches poll and are ranked 18th by Soccer America and 24th by CollegeSoccerNews.com.
San José State is fifth in the WAC with 10 points and has won two of its last three. The Spartans fell, 1-0, at California Baptist last Sunday, and play at Air Force on Thursday.
UP NEXT
Utah Valley travels to Grand Canyon and UNLV next week. They'll face the Lopes on Friday, Oct. 26 in Phoenix before a Sunday contest in Las Vegas.
