BOULDER, Colo.—Colorado scored a pair of goals in the first half and one more in the second to claim a 3-0 win over Utah Valley on Thursday afternoon at Prentup Field in Boulder, Colo.
"We created chances," said Utah Valley head coach
Chris Lemay. "I think the difference in the match was that they finished their chances and we didn't finish ours. Unfortunately, a couple of mental lapses against a very good team turned into goals. When we did well enough to break them down we were unable to put the nail in the coffin and finish."
Utah Valley (1-7-1) gave itself numerous opportunities to score as the Wolverines tallied four shots on goal.
Whitney Paskins led the Wolverines with two shots on goal. The redshirt sophomore had two opportunities in the box in both the 24th and 28th minutes.
Amber Tripp also had a pair of shots on the day.
Colorado (7-0-1) got on the scoreboard in the 25th minute as Jorian Baucom scored the first of her two goals on the night. Tatum Barton then found the back of the net in the 35th minute to give the Buffs a 2-0 lead at the half. Baucom then secured her brace with a goal in the 83rd minute.
Brooklyn Nielsen played all 90 minutes in goal for the Wolverines. The junior keeper recorded six saves to bring her season total to 35.
Colorado (7-0-1) out-shot the Wolverines 18-8, including a 9-4 advantage on goal. The Buffalos also had six corner kicks to UVU's two.
"We are really excited that our next game is at home and that we don't have to get on a plane for a couple of weeks before we start WAC play," said Lemay. "We're focused on recovery and focused on getting a good result on Saturday against Oklahoma."
Next up for the Wolverines is a showdown at home against Big 12 foe Oklahoma on Saturday night at Clyde Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
