CEDAR CITY, Utah – Thanks to five top-15 finishes on the women's side, the Utah Valley University women's team placed second while the men finished third on Saturday at the SUU Color Country Invitational at Cedar Ridge Golf Course in Cedar City.
Lily Poulton and
Emily Jones led the way for the Wolverine women by placing seventh and ninth with respective times of 15:07.67 and 15:09.62 over the 4K course, while
Kyandra Chandler finished in 11th (15:18.55),
Kami Lynch 14th (15:22.56) and
Elizabeth Wilcox 15th (15:23.03). With the five top-15 finishes, the UVU women posted the runner-up finish with a total of 46 points.
Cami Squires,
Rylee Holt and
Mackenzie Hess too all ran well for the Utah Valley women's squad by finishing in the top 20. Squires placed 17th with a time of 15:30.64, while Holt followed in 18th (15:31.75) and Hess 20th (15:33.50).
Behind a third-place individual finish from
Jared Gonzalez-Perez, the UVU men placed third on the day with 60 total points. Gonzalez-Perez posted the third place finish out of 46 runners by completing the 6K course in 19:06.29.
Caleb Ream was next for the Wolverines by finishing 13th with a time of 19:31.96, while
Blaise Miller and
Max Bailey also finished in the top-20 by placing 16th (19:54.03) and 19th (20:03.72), respectively.
Sam Coleman was UVU's fifth finisher by placing 22nd with a time of 20:08.31.
The host Southern Utah T-Birds won the women's race with 38 points, while the Pac-12 Utah Utes took third (68), Dixie State fourth (98) and Idaho State fifth (100). The Idaho State Bengals won the men's race with 34 points, while SUU took second (44) and Dixie State fourth (77).
With four meets in the month of October, the majority of UVU's top runners sat out Saturday's meet.
The Wolverines will continue their busy month by heading to Northern California next weekend to take part at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational. The meet will be held at Baylands Regional Park on Saturday, Oct. 19 in Sunnyvale.
