OREM, Utah - Utah Valley dropped a five-set contest to California Baptist after a late three-set surge from the Lancers on Saturday, 2-3 (25-15, 25-20, 18-25,13-25, 13-15).
Sets one and two belonged to the Wolverines came out to an early 10-4 lead over the Lancers. A pair of three and four point runs controlled the lead for Utah Valley as they cruised through the first set, 25-15. Set two saw three lead changes in the beggining of play before a big five-nothing run gave UVU a comfortable lead, 15-10. A string of kills from

Makaila Jarema sealed a 21-16 lead.
Bailey Christensen collected back-to-back kills at the net for a Wolverine win, 25-20. Tarawhiti tallied six kills in the first two sets, alongside Childs with four and Christensen and Jarema with a couple.
Utah Valley fell in the remaining three sets against California Baptist as CBU grabbed a 6-12 lead over UVU in the third set and remained ahead to hand UVU the first loss of the match, 18-25. UVU would be held to 13 points in both the fourth and fifth set after a 4-11 deficit in the fourth. The fifth set came to a 12-12 tie between the teams before CBU collected a pair of kills to claim the match.
Tarawhiti again led UVU at the net with 14 kills and tallied three blocks, followed by teammate Jarema who posted 10 kills and six blocks. As a team, UVU topped CBU in digs, 68-61.
Up next for UVU is a matchup against Chicago State on Monday, October 14 at 6pm MT in Lockhart Arena, followed by the visiting Seattle U Redhawks on Saturday, October 19 at 12pm MT.
