Chicago State and Seattle U on deck for Utah Valley

OREM, Utah – The Wolverines close the slate of competition at home this week against Chicago State, October 14 at 6pm MT, continued by a matchup against Seattle U on October 19 at 12pm MT.
 
Over the weekend, UVU faced matchups against Kansas City and California Baptist, dropping both contests in five sets. UVU moves to a 6-12 overall record and an even 3-3 conference record and the Wolverines sit in the middle of the pack, tied for the No. 4 spot in WAC standings next to UT Rio Grande Valley. 

Chicago State posts an 0-4 WAC record, 4-14 overall in the 2019 season so far. The Cougars are averaging 11.7 kills per set for a .147% team average, 11.1 assists per set, 15.1 digs per set and 1.4 blocks per set. Chicago State sits in the No. 9 spot in WAC volleyball standings. UVU and CSU have met 24 times total for a 23-1 all-time record since first meeting in 2007. 

Seattle U currently sits on a 1-4 WAC record, an even 10-10 overall in the season. The Redhawks are averaging 11.8 kills per set for a .185% team average, 11.0 assists per set, 13.4 digs per set and 2.2 blocks per set. Seattle holds a No. 8 spot in WAC standings and a .167% win percentage in conference play. UVU and SU have met 15 times total for a 9-6 all-time record since first meeting in 2008. 

Sophomore outside hitter Kazna Tarawhiti continues her season-long standing as the leader of both the WAC and UVU for her campaign on the front line. Tarawhiti is averaging 3.81 kills per set and has collected 244 kills on the season. Junior libero Seren Merrill also continues her campaign in the top-five of the conference with an average 4.22 digs per set, 287 total digs. Senior middle Makaila Jarema counts herself in the WAC top-five as she holds a season-high .333% hitting average, as well as 1.41 blocks per set. As a team, UVU holds the second highest spot in the WAC for their performance at the net, tallying 157 total blocks so far in the season for an average of 2.30 blocks per set, right behind the undefeated NM State Aggies. 

UVU will close the home-stretch of competition on Saturday and then hit the road to visit New Mexico State on October 24, followed by a contest in Edinburg, Texas against UT Rio Grande Valley, October 28.
