CHICAGO—
Cassidy McCormick scored her first collegiate goal and then added two more for her first hat trick to help lead the Utah Valley University women's soccer team to a 10-0 shutout win on the road over Chicago State at Kroc Stadium in The Windy City.
Â
The win is UVU's third-straight WAC shutout victory as the team moves to 8-6-1 overall and 3-1-0 in league play. The Wolverines now travel to Missouri to take on 2018 regular season champion Kansas City on Sunday at noon (MT).
Â
McCormick scored her first-ever collegiate goal in just the fifth minute to give the Wolerines an early 1-0 lead. The junior defender/forward then found the back of the net in the ninth minute off a cross from
Amber Tripp for her second score. She then fired a penalty kick into the back of the net in the 80th minute to become just the seventh player in UVU history to record a hat trick.
Â
"I have played defender for the past two years so being able to play forward has been really fun," said McCormick. "It felt really good to get my first collegiate goal with a hat trick. I got some really good balls from my teammates. Everyone on our team was involved working together. No matter the score, it's just important that we got the result we wanted."
McKenzie Humpherys and
McKayla Montgomery also scored their first career goals as Humpherys found the back of the net in the 38th minute and Montgomery in the 39th.
Sadie Brockbank and
Jocelyn Bybee each recorded a brace with two goals each. Tripp also found the back of the net.
UVU's 10 goals ties the school record for the most goals scored in a single match. UVU scored 11 goals in a win over Delaware State on Oct. 29, 2005. The Wolverines also scored 10 goals in a win over Northwest Nazarene on Oct. 11, 2003.
Â
Saydee Bacdad and the UVU defense picked up the shutout—the team's fifth clean sheet of the season and third straight.
Â
Utah Valley will continue WAC play on the road as the team now travels to the Show-Me State to take on Kansas City on Sunday. Kickoff is set for noon (MT). The match will be broadcast live on the WAC Digital Network.
