KANSAS CITY—
Blake Frischknecht scored a late second half goal to put the Wolverines within striking distance but it wouldn't be enough as Kansas City defeated Utah Valley, 2-1, to snap the Wolverines' five-game win streak on Saturday night at Durwood Stadium.

The loss is Utah Valley's first Western Athletic Conference setback of the season as the Wolverines fall to 8-4-1 overall and 5-1-0 in league play. Kansas City improves to 4-7-0 overall and 3-3-0 in WAC play.

"Soccer can be cruel, and tonight's result was a perfect example of that," said Utah Valley head coach
Greg Maas. "We created enough chances to secure a result, but we simply couldn't find the back of the net. I was, however, proud of our fight tonight, but we also have areas to improve upon. That said, this group is very resilient and determined, and we'll be ready for two very tough matches on the road next week at San Jose and Seattle."Â

Utah Valley out-shot Kansas City 18-5 with a 4-3 advantage on frame. The Wolverines tallied 11 of its 18 shots in the second half, while limiting the 'Roos to just two shots in the final period. UVU also had four corner kicks to Kansas City's three.

Kansas City took a 1-0 lead in the 42nd minute after Aiden Cavanaugh broke free and connected on a shot into the bottom right side of the net. The 'Roos scored again in the 68th minute after Ryan Khedoo dribbled around a defender in the box and found the back of the net to give Kansas City a 2-0 advantage.

UVU battled back and scored a goal in the 75th minute after
Alec Felix sent a corner kick into the box from the left side of the field.
Ahmed Longmire headed it toward the goal where Frischknecht then got a head on it and put it off the crossbar and into the net for the score. The goal cut the Kansas City lead to a 2-1 advantage.

The Wolverines nearly tied the game in the 87th minute as Frischknecht flicked the ball into the box from the left side to a streaking
Leo Fuchs, who fired a shot just wide.

Frischknecht led the Wolverines with seven shots on the night, including three on goal.
Zach Maas, Fuchs,
Aaron Nixon, and
Becca Rice each had two shots. Defensively,
Joseph Wheelwright tallied one save.

Utah Valley continues WAC road play next week as the team travels to play San Jose State on Oct. 25 and Seattle U on Oct. 27. UVU's next home match will be on Oct. 31 against UNLV.
