UVU collects second straight sweep with win over Seattle U

OREM, Utah - Utah Valley's volleyball team collected the second straight sweep in the Wolverines three-set victory over the Redhawks of Seattle U on Saturday afternoon in the Lockhart Arena, 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-17). UVU also swept Chicago State earlier this week, 3-0, and moves to 5-3 in conference play. 

In the first set win over SU, Megan Childs had three kills while hitting over a .500% average and added a block at the net. Teammate Kazna Tarawhiti also tallied five kills for a .364% average and a block. As a team, UVU hit .219%, collected two aces on the back line and six blocks in the opening contest against Seattle. 

The Wolverines capitalized in set two, hitting .600% as a team, collected two more service aces and six total blocks on the frontline. Jasmine Niutupuivaha led the Wolverine frontline with a perfect four-for-four kills to mark a 1.000% hitting average. UVU had 13 kills in the second and a 71% side-out average. 

In the final set of the day, the Wolverines posted a final impressive .360% team average, two service aces and 11 total blocks. Makaila Jarema led Utah Valley at the net with four blocks and a pair of kills, followed by Childs with two blocks and a kill. 

As a team, the Wolverines posted 23 blocks, Jarema with eight total, Childs with five and Niutupuivaha and Downs with three. UVU marked a .364% hitting average, led by Niutupuivaha with eight kills for a .727% average and Tarawhiti also with eight kills and a .412% average. 

UVU heads south to face contests against WAC's No. 1 ranked New Mexico State on October 24 and then a matchup against UT Rio Grande Valley on October 28.
