OREM, Utah - Utah Valley will hit the road this weekend as they take on WAC opponents CSU Bakersfield and Grand Canyon. UVU heads first to CSUB on October 3 for a 7pm MT start, followed by the contest at GCU on October 5 at 4pm MT.
UVU (4-10) heads into the weekend of play from a 3-2 battle over UTRGV this last week (21-25, 18-25, 25-9, 25-22, 15-7), where
Kazna Tarawhiti and
Megan Childs both tallied double digits in kills for the Wolverine win over, the Vaqueros, Tarawhiti with 19 and Childs with 11.
CSUB currently sits on a 6-8 record in the 2019 season and a split 1-1 in conference play. CSU Bakersfield is averaging 11.5 kills per set for a .152% average, 10.7 assists per set, 14.4 digs and 2.1 blocks per set. Against CSU Bakersfield, Utah Valley has posted a 14-9 record in the 23 overall appearances between the teams.
GCU has dropped only two games in the 2019 season, tallying a 12-2 overall record, with an unblemished 2-0 start in conference play. Grand Canyon is averaging 12.5 kills per set for a .231% average, 11.6 assists per set, 16 digs and 2.1 blocks per set. Against GCU, Utah Valley has posted a perfect 12-0 record in all of their contests since 2013.
Jasmine Niutupuivaha leads the Wolverines with 4 solo blocks and 48 assisted blocks for 52 total blocks and is hitting a .318% average with 90 total kills. Outside hitter Tarawhiti tops both UVU and the WAC in kills per set (3.81) and 179 total kills.
Following the road trip for the Wolverines, UVU will return home for a slate of competitions in Lockhart Arena. Utah Valley will first face UMKC, followed by Cal Baptist and Chicago State, to then cap the string of home-events against Seattle U.
