Breanna DeWaal recorded a brace, including the game winner to lead Utah Valley to a 3-1 win over UT Rio Grande Valley on Thursday night at Clyde Field.

The win pushes UVU's record to 9-7-1 overall and 4-2-0 in WAC play. The Wolverines move past UTRGV and into third place in the league with 12 points. UTRGV falls to 9-5-2 overall and 3-2-1 in WAC play.
"We challenged our players before the match," said Utah Valley head coach
Chris Lemay. "They knew the scope of this game in terms of the playoff standings. We're going to everything we can to get a bye at the tournament. Our players wanted it. We knew we had to win the 50-50 balls in order for us to have the best chance and we did a good job tonight."

Utah Valley got on the scoreboard in just the fifth minute after
Julianna Carter passed a ball from the right side of the ball up top to
Megan Sullivan. Sullivan then sent the ball towards the goal where Bybee punched it in for the score, giving UVU an early 1-0 lead. The goal is Bybee's fourth of the season.

DeWaal extended UVU's lead as she received a deflected ball at the top of the box and fired it off the left post and into the back of the net. The scored pushed UVU's lead to a 2-0 advantage.

DeWaal scored again in the 52nd minute after the Wolverines were awarded a penalty kick for a foul in the box. Bybee drew the foul after beating her defender and then being pulled to the ground by her jersey. The goal is DeWaal's third of the season.

UTRGV's lone goal of the match was on a penalty kick by Katherine Stokely in the 81st minute.

The Wolverines out-shot UTRGV 13-6 with an 8-3 advantage on frame. The Wolverines had seven corner kicks to UTRGV's two. DeWaal led UVU with three shots, all on net.
Heather Stainbrook,
Amber Tripp, and Bybee each had two shots each.
Allie Jara picked up the win in the box, playing all 90 minutes with a pair of saves.

Utah Valley continues play at home on Saturday against Grand Canyon. The team will celebrate its three seniors (
Hannah Bruce,
Allie Jara,
Brianna Hatch) as the game will be the final home match of the season for UVU. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
