FINAL HOMESTAND BEGINS WITH REBELS, LOPES
Utah Valley University men's soccer returns to Clyde Field for the first time in nearly three weeks to begin a three-game homestand to wrap up the WAC regular season. The Wolverines host UNLV on Thursday at 7 p.m. MT and Grand Canyon on Saturday at 6 p.m. MT.Â
UVU (8-6-1, 5-3-0) sits in second place with 15 points behind Seattle U, which defeated the Wolverines in overtime on Sunday. The Redhawks have a firm grasp on first place in the conference with 22 points. Three teams are tied for third with 13 points and three more have 12 points and are tied for sixth.Â
"Despite our recent run of results, we have been very good, and it's only a matter of time before our hard work pays off and the bounces start to go our way," UVU head coach Greg Maas said. "It's the first time we'll have the final three matches at home to finish conference play, and I know we can't wait for our return to Clyde Field and our 12th Wolverines. It's time to Protect the Den."
Even without a goal last week, Blake Frischknecht remains at the top of the goals scored list in the WAC, tied with UNLV's Timo Melich with nine on the season. Frischknecht is also tied for second in the country with five game-winners. His nine goals are currently tied for the single-season school record, held by Skyler Milne (2015) and Paul Hoffmeister (2016).Â

UVU will host Air Force on Saturday, Nov. 9 on Senior Day in a 1 p.m. kickoff. It's the final match of the WAC regular season prior to the WAC Tournament beginning on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at Air Force. The top seven teams qualify for the conference tournament with the regular season winner earning a bye into the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 15. The championship match is slated for Sunday, Nov. 17.Â
ABOUT THE OPPOSITION
UNLV (5-10-1, 3-4-1) enters this week's action on the outside looking in, in its bid a for a spot in the WAC Tournament. The Rebels have 10 points and are in ninth place and also travel to Air Force for a Saturday afternoon contest. UNLV will play its final three games on the road, wrapping up the conference regular season on Nov. 9 at Grand Canyon. UNLV leads the all-time series 4-3-0 after winning in double-overtime on a penalty kick last season in Las Vegas.Â
Grand Canyon (4-6-4. 1-4-3) dropped a high-scoring overtime contest to Houston Baptist last Friday, 4-3, before falling 2-0 to Kansas City two days later. The Lopes are at Air Force on Thursday before coming to Orem for Saturday's contest. GCU is in 11th with six points and needs positive results to get back into the postseason picture. The all-time series is tied 3-3-0 with the Lopes having won the last three including two last season, both in overtime. The most recent contest eliminated UVU from the WAC Tournament in Seattle, a 1-0 OT result. GCU then went on to claim the tournament title and earn the automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
