UVU RETURNS TO CLYDE TO HOST CSU BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA BAPTIST
After sweeping the Texas two-game trip to move to 3-0-0 in WAC play, Utah Valley University returns to Clyde Field for a pair of matches this week starting Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. MT against CSU Bakersfield. The Wolverines (6-3-1) will also host California Baptist on Saturday at 5 p.m. MT. Both games are part of a doubleheader with the women's soccer team.
UVU has won three straight overall with results of 3-0 vs Houston Baptist, 2-1 at UT Rio Grande Valley, and 1-0 at Incarnate Word. Utah Valley is tied with Seattle U atop the WAC table with nine points.Â
"The first two weeks of WAC results have proven the quality and depth of programs we have in our conference," UVU head coach Greg Maas said. "It's always great to be back on Clyde Field in front of The Den. The boys are focused in our preparation for two very good opponents, and we're committed to build on our momentum in the early stages of WAC play."
Blake Frishknecht continued his streak of games with a goal, scoring both game-winners last week to extend to score for the sixth straight match. The senior forward is tied for the WAC lead with seven goals and four game-winners.Â
In the 2-1 win at No. 25 (TopDrawerSoccer.com) UTRGV, Aaron Caprio scored on a free kick from Zach Maas for the game's first goal before Frischknecht's winner in the second half on a Mark Brown assist. In Sunday's win, it was a first-half penalty kick that provided the only goal, and Joseph Wheelwright had five saves to earn the shutout.Â

ABOUT THE OPPOSITION
CSU Bakersfield dropped its WAC opener, 3-2, to San José State before rebounding with two home wins last week. The Runners defeated UNLV, 1-0, and Grand Canyon, 2-1, and enter Thursday's contest at 3-6-0 overall and 2-1-0 in WAC play. UVU is 3-2-1 all-time against CSUB with Thursday just the second time the two will play in Orem. Utah Valley won 3-0 on Clyde Field in 2016 and, after a 1-0 defeat at CSUB in 2017, got a 2-1 result last year in Bakersfield.Â
California Baptist has had three different results in its three WAC contests, falling to Seattle U, playing Grand Canyon to a scoreless draw, and putting up four goals in a four-nil win over UNLV. The Lancers (2-7-2, 1-1-1) will play at Air Force on Thursday night before coming to Orem for Saturday's match. Utah Valley won the only prior meeting between the programs, getting a 1-0 victory last season at CBU in Riverside, California.
