EMMITSBURG, MD. – Utah Valley closed out the BBN Showcase with a tough 64-61 loss against Mount St. Mary's on the road. The loss brings the Wolverines to 4-4 on the season as the Mountaineers improve to 2-5 on the year.
Casdon Jardine drilled a pair of threes to give the Wolverines an early 6-0 lead. The Mountaineers responded with an 13-3 run to take a 13-9 advantage with 12:26 to go in the opening half. TJ Washington keyed a 9-2 run to retake the lead for the Wolverines at 18-15. Utah Valley used an 11-2 run extended their lead, taking a 29-24 advantage into the half.
Jardine made an and-one layup to give the Wolverines their largest lead of the night, 32-24, to start the second half but the Wolverines were unable to pull away from Mount St. Mary's. Utah Valley held a narrow lead the majority of the second half until the Mountaineers tied the game up at 54-54 with 4:29 to go in the game.
Cavit Ege Havsa made a couple of layups to give the Wolverines a 60-56 advantage but Mount St. Mary's would end the game with a 10-1 run to pull the upset, 64-61, as Washington's heave at the buzzer fell short.
The Wolverines finished the game shooting 22-of-63 from the field, hitting just 8-of-28 from long distance. Utah Valley limited Mount St. Mary's to just 3-of-17 from deep, but the Mountaineers connected on 15-of-18 free throws and outrebounded UVU 46-39.
Jardine led the Wolverines with a career-high 25 points on 5-of-11 from deep to go along with a team-leading 11 rebounds. Washington was the other Wolverine in double figures with 18 points. Havsa led the UVU with four assists and Emmanuel Olojakpoke matched a career-high with five blocks.
Utah Valley wraps up their road trip at Colorado State on Dec. 1 before returning home to take on in-state rival Weber State on Dec. 4 in the UCCU Center. The Colorado State game is set for a 2:30 p.m. MT tip and will be broadcasted on MW Network and ESPN960 AM.
