UVU ends three-game road swing with loss at Colorado State

FORT COLLINS, CO. – Utah Valley was unable to recover from a cold stretch in the first half as the team dropped a 92-61 decision on the road at Colorado State on Sunday afternoon at Moby Arena.

The loss brings the Wolverines to 4-5 on the year while the Rams improve to 6-3 on the season.

The Wolverines jumped out to a 9-6 lead with 15:43 to go in the half before a cold stretch gave the Rams the advantage. Utah Valley went eight minutes without scoring a point as Colorado State went on a 17-0 run to take a 23-9 lead. After exchanging baskets, the Rams went on a 17-2 spurt to take a 42-16 lead going into the half. UVU started to pick up the scoring in the second half, however it was unable to get enough stops to cut into the lead. Casdon Jardine hit a three to get the lead down to 70-47 but the Rams pulled away for the 92-61 win.

Utah Valley shot just 22-of-57 from the field, including 24.2 percent from deep. The Wolverines were outrebounded 37-24, leading to a 34-20 deficit in points in the paint. UVU also had 18 turnovers which contributed to 23 points off turnovers for Colorado State.

Jardine led the Wolverines with 15 points, knocking down 5-of-8 shots from downtown. Emmanuel Olojakpoke chipped in 11 points on a perfect 5-of-5 from the field, and Jamison Overton finished as the other Wolverine in double digits with 10 points. Brandon Averette led Utah Valley with five assists and Trey Woodbury grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

Utah Valley returns home to take on in-state rival Weber State on Dec. 4 in the UCCU Center. The game is set for a 7 p.m. MT tip and will be broadcasted on UVUTV, the WAC Digital Network and ESPN960 AM. The Wolverines then travel to face another in-state rival, Southern Utah, in Cedar City on Dec. 7.
