UVU outscored by 25th-ranked Long Beach State

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Utah Valley University and No. 25 Long Beach State combined for 26 runs and 32 hits on an offensive Sunday morning at the final day of the Marucci Desert Classic at UNLV. The Wolverines came out on the short end of the 16-10 final. 
 
UVU went 3-2 over the opening weekend at the classic and had another big day from both Peyton Angulo and Lyndsay Steverson. Angulo went 4-for-5 on Sunday, and with hits in her first two at-bats, extended her streak of consecutive hits to nine straight, four shy of tying an NCAA Division I record. Steverson was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs.
 
For the weekend Angulo batted .706 (12-for-17) with four doubles, four RBIs and eight runs scored. Steverson went 9-for-15 (.600) with two home runs, three doubles and eight batted in.
 
Six Wolverines had multi-hit days on Sunday including a 4-for-5, two RBI game by Linnah Rebolledo, who went 7-for-11 (.636) in four starts over the weekend. Justine Briones collected four hits for the LBSU (3-2) while Jamie Wren drove in five runs. 
 
UVU jumped ahead early with four runs in the top of the first, highlighted by an RBI double from Abby Doughty, a two-run double from Steverson and an RBI single from Basia Query. But Long Beach State answered with six in the bottom half of the inning. It was one of two big run-scoring innings by the Beach. Each time the Wolverines scored, Long Beach State answered in its next at bat.
 
Trailing 9-5 in the sixth, Utah Valley came back to tie the game after pushing four runs across the plate. Angulo had an RBI double, Rebolledo drove in run with a single and Madison Sisco tied it with a two-out base hit that scored Rebolledo and Query. 
 
The Beach responded to score seven times in the bottom half, sending 12 hitters to the plate and getting RBIs from five different players including a solo home run from Breezy Wise. Rebelledo drove collected her fourth hit in the seventh inning, driving in Doughty who scored three times on Sunday. Both teams finished with 16 hits.
 
The Wolverines return to UNLV and Las Vegas next weekend with five games at the Boyd Gaming Rebel Classic beginning with a twin bill on Friday at 10 a.m. MT against Miami (Ohio), followed by a contest against the host Rebels.
