Wolverines set for rescheduled match-up against SUU

OREM, Utah – The Utah Valley softball team will make their way back to St. George, Utah, this Sunday in a rescheduled matchup against in-state foe Southern Utah. UVU will take on the Thunderbirds in a doubleheader on March 10, beginning at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. MT at the Canyons Softball Complex.

The doubleheader was originally scheduled for Saturday at SUU's Kathryn Berg Field in Cedar City, but with wet field conditions the games were moved to the Canyons Softball Complex St. George.

The Wolverines come off of just two games completed in the originally scheduled five-game tournament at the Red Desert Classic, where they went 1-1 against Notre Dame and Saint Mary's.

In their 4-3 victory over the Gaels, the long ball helped propel the Wolverines to victory. Both Lyndsay Steverson and Brianna Moeller homered in the game, while Skylar Cook led the way by going 2-for-3 with a run scored. Steverson connected with a two-run shot in the early innings, while Moeller delivered a go-ahead solo homer in the sixth.

Devyn Cretz too pitched well against SMC by going the distance in the circle to earn the win after giving up just three runs on seven hits while striking out a pair and walking just two.

UVU's leaders on the 2019 season include Steverson, as she leads the way with four home runs, 14 runs batted in and 29 total bases as well as holding a .378 batting average. Brianna Moeller leads the Wolverines in triples with three, while Linnah Rebolledo fronts the team in doubles with six doubles and Cook in stolen bases with five.

Cretz leads the pitching totals with eight appearances, six starts, 20 total strike outs, an earned run average of 4.61 and three total victories under her name.

Against Southern Utah, the Wolverines have produced a record of 13-12-1 total. UVU defeated SUU in the season-opening Marucci Desert Classic last month, 10-3.

SUU currently sits at a 1-9 record overall for the 2019 season. In 2018, Southern Utah went 6-15 in the Big Sky Conference and 9-38 overall.

Following Utah Valley's doubleheader against SUU will be a three-game series against the Montana Grizzlies on March 16 and 17 in Missoula.
